I chose to join theproducers' organization SOPA, and its commercial structure Kultive, in particular because of the strong involvement of its producers in the agroecological transition and the emulation that this generates in terms of technique.

My farm has been certified High Environmental Value level 3 since 2020 (NB: greenhouse crops cannot be certified organic), as well as Demain La Terre, and I'm also committed to a zero pesticide residue approach.

What motivates me is to do what's best for my crop, even if this isn't necessarily easy to promote commercially in the eyes of the consumer.

What drew you to biocontrol?

Personally, I've always been interested in agroecology and alternatives to conventional plant protection products, particularly micro-organisms.

For me, as for the other SOPA growers, biocontrol solutions are the future. And the fact that they are complex to master and not presented as "miracle products" makes them all the more interesting to me.

Today, I use several biocontrol products to ensure good health throughout my crop cycle.

Has the use of biocontrol had an impact on your practices?

In order to install the micro-organisms in the best possible conditions, I decided to switch from an inert substrate (rockwool) to a semi-organic substrate based on peat and coconut fibres.

Anticipation is also key to the practices I've put in place. With biocontrol products, we're on the preventive side It is therefore very important to anticipate in order to maintain a good state of health, especially as Pythium can develop very quickly.

Generally speaking, to work well in greenhouses, you need to be close to your plants. Observation is essential.

How did you hear about Tri-Soil and work with Agrauxine?

I was already familiar with Agrauxine, having done an internship there during my studies (at the time, I was working on the problem of wood diseases in vines) and, as I said, I've always been interested in micro-organisms.

That's why SOPA and we contacted the Agrauxine teams directly to find out if they were working on products suited to our crops and problems. Tri-Soil was tested at CVETMO (Centre de Vulgarisation et d'Etudes Techniques Maraîchères de la région d'Orléans) over several crop cycles to define a protocol for its use, and to help obtain a derogatory extension for 120 days of the product's registration (AMM n° 2160686) on cucumbers.

I took advantage of the 120-day AMM exemption granted last year to use Tri-Soil for preventive control of Pythium on cucumbers. I haven't yet collected enough precise data to quantify the results and testify to the product's effectiveness, but last year's results were rather encouraging. That's why I'm planning to use it again this year during my 2nd crop cycle.

From a technical point of view, the Agrauxine teams are very helpful. The derogatory approval granted by the AMM is precise and limits the recommendations to a maximum of 10 kg/ha per crop cycle, even if for my crop, I'd like to be able to make more applications.

In your opinion, what would encourage the development of biocontrol solutions and their greater use by growers in the future?

From our point of view, there's no question about it: biocontrol solutions represent the future, so we have to take an interest in them.

On the other hand, although in practice fairly simple to use, these solutions involve more complex, multi-factorial approaches and are therefore more complex to implement. Not to mention that they also represent a significant cost for farms.

In our view, there is a need for even more support and follow-up in the deployment of biocontrol solutions, with more analyses and trial results, for example, to measure their effectiveness on crops and monitor their evolution.

And from a regulatory point of view, more flexibility in registration times would also be welcome, because biocontrol products don't work like conventional crop protection products.

Derogatory approval of Tri-Soil (AMM n° 2160686) for 120 days, from May 14 to September 11, 2021, for use against Pythiaceae fungi in Cucumbers: https: //agriculture.gouv.fr/produits-phytopharmaceutiques-autorisations-de-mise-sur-le-marche-dune-duree-maximale-de-120-jours

Further information on Tri-Soil: http: //agrauxine.com/fr/produit/tri-soil/

To find out more about SOPA and its commercial structure Kultive: https: //www.kultive.fr/

Simon Boisgard, a young cucumber grower based in Sandillon (45), explains why he became interested in biocontrol products.

[124

post-14647","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-testimonials","cat-124-id
["GET
