{"id":6437,"date":"2021-07-22T06:04:44","date_gmt":"2021-07-22T06:04:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/agrauxine.com\/?p=6437"},"modified":"2026-03-26T10:50:38","modified_gmt":"2026-03-26T10:50:38","slug":"romeo-sc-an-innovative-and-effective-tool-on-fungicide-program-for-brazilian-soybean-producers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/agrauxine.com\/en\/romeo-sc-an-innovative-and-effective-tool-on-fungicide-program-for-brazilian-soybean-producers\/","title":{"rendered":"Romeo SC, an innovative and effective tool on fungicide program for Brazilian soybean producers"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>As the 2021\/2022 soybean crop season is soon to start in Brazil, the world\u2019s largest soybean producer, our distribution partner IHARA is launching Romeo SC, a preventive biocontrol solution based on Cerevisane, designed to activate the plant\u2019s defense metabolisms and help soybean growers achieve higher yields.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A record production to be expected in 2021 soybean campaign in Brazil<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/agrauxine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/image-018.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Brazil soybean production<\/strong>&nbsp;for marketing year (MY) 2020\/21 is forecast at&nbsp;<strong>a record 136.0 million metric tons<\/strong>&nbsp;(mmt), up 7.5 mmt (6 percent) from the MY 2019\/20 revised record crop of 128.5 mmt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The harvested area is forecast at a record&nbsp;<strong>38.6 million hectares<\/strong>&nbsp;(mha),while&nbsp;<strong>yield is forecast at a record of 3.52 tons per hectare<\/strong>&nbsp;(t\/ha).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Not only Brazil is currently&nbsp;<strong>the main country on world soybean production but on exports as well<\/strong>, leading the ranking with almost 83 million tones exported in 2020 and a revenue of USD28.56 billion in the same year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A growing interest for biocontrol alternatives within the Brazilian crop protection market<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2020,&nbsp;<strong>Brazilian agrochemicals market was USD12,1 billion<\/strong>, being 48% of this amount referent to&nbsp;<strong>soybeans (USD5.8 billion)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Meanwhile,&nbsp;<strong>biocontrol<\/strong>&nbsp;<strong>market<\/strong>&nbsp;achieved&nbsp;<strong>USD237 million<\/strong>, or&nbsp;<strong>2.5% of total agrochemicals market<\/strong>. Even that representing only a minor part of Crop Protection market, biocontrol is getting more and more relevance presenting a&nbsp;<strong>34% growth in USD basis over last period<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the soybeans agrochemicals market,&nbsp;<strong>fungicides<\/strong>&nbsp;had a revenue of&nbsp;<strong>USD 2.85 billion<\/strong>, being&nbsp;<strong>USD450 million of protectant (multisite) fungicides<\/strong>, which were adopted by 70% of cultivated area at the 2019\/2020 crop season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Protectant fungicides have gained relevance since the 2016\/2017 crop season due to the&nbsp;<strong>sharp reduction of efficacy of chemical fungicides to control Asian Soybean Rust<\/strong>&nbsp;(Phakopsora pachyrhizi). The&nbsp;<strong>lower performance of fungicides<\/strong>&nbsp;is explained by resistance of the fungi to the main products (or mode of action) in Brazilian market:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>In 2007\/2008 it was identified resistance to triazoles (DMI group);<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In 2013\/2014 it appeared resistance to strobilurins (QoI group);<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In 2016\/2017 it was the time of the carboxamides to \u201cjoin the team\u201d.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Considering the&nbsp;<strong>current efficiency of site-specific fungicides around 60% to 70% and of 40% of multisite fungicides<\/strong>, there is clearly a gap to bridge and an&nbsp;<strong>opportunity for new tools to come and contribute on ASR control.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Romeo SC, an ideal partner on the fungicide program for soybeans protection and the 1st microbial elicitor registered in fungicide<\/strong>, must be sprayed always&nbsp;<strong>preventatively<\/strong>, and has the&nbsp;<strong>active ingredient Cerevisane at 10% concentration<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cerevisane is based on specific yeast fractions and its mode of action is an&nbsp;<strong>elicitor, activating natural defenses of the plant and is present on FRAC list<\/strong>&nbsp;(Fungicide Resistance Action
